eBay Buyer's Guide

If you have never made purchases through eBay before don't be afraid - We have prepared this guide to get you started.  I have been an "eBayer" for years and rarely have had a problem.  In the couple times an issue has arose I have never had one that hasn’t worked out fine.  eBay sellers take pride in their feedback scores and usually go out of their way to help customers, much more so than “big businesses.”   This is a great marketplace, anything you can imagine is here and amazing prices abound.  Follow my guide below or print it out and use it to begin "shopping victoriously" at eBay!

REGISTRATION

1. Register by clicking on the “sign in” link in the upper left corner.  Fill out the short registration form and submit.

2. This would also be a good time to register for a PayPal account if you do not have one. Go to PayPal.com and select the “sign up” link in the gray box on the left side.  Fill out their form and submit it.  Follow their instructions to verify your account.  (Most of the sellers on Ebay use PayPal for payments as it is an easy way to take credit cards, checks, instant transfers, and more.  It is also helpful if you ever want to send or receive money from someone via your computer!)

ITEM SELECTION & EVALUATION

:) With the help of goodforguts.com you will not need to spend a bunch of time searching for an item because we have already done the searching for you.  Each top name juicer manufacturer has their own page so you can find them quickly.

1. Click the title of any listing to view the details.  (The listing will open in a separate window so you won’t loose our listings page)
2. Read the Item Description first. Is it really what you want?  (It is very important to check the condition - a cheap price may mean the item is a “parts only” or in poor condition.  Check the specifics, and look at photos of the item.)
3. Look at the Price.  (How does it compare to others?  Shop for price and quality just like you would anywhere else.)
4. Check the Meet the seller box to learn more about the seller.  (How is their feedback?  Look at transactions listed to see how they treat their customers or those they buy from.)
5. Check if you can Buy It Now for a specified price instead of bidding for the item.
or If it is an auction-style listing, check Current bid and Time left.
6.  Look at the Shipping box - (check shipping costs, shipping time, sellers guarantee for returns/money back, and what payments they accept.)
7.  If you need more info about an item click the ask seller a question link.

BUYING OPTIONS
Buy It Now:  You may buy the item right away for the price indicated or if “Make an Offer” is listed you can try to get the item for less from the seller.
(Some items will have the option of bidding and buy it now.  The reason for bidding is usually that you can get a better deal.)

Auction (bidding) listings:  These run for 1,3,5,7, or 10 days.  During the running time members may enter bids.  To win you must have the highest bid at the end of the buying period.

MAKING THE BID/SALE

When you place a bid enter the maximum you would pay for the item.  Another page will open asking you to confirm your bid.  **Submit a bid or a Buy It Now only after you are satisfied with all the details! By bidding or buying you are entering into a legal contract to purchase the item.** Ebay will automatically bid on your behalf until your maximum is reached.  That way if someone enters a higher bid after you, eBay will keep bidding for you up to your maximum.  (If you see an outbid notice right away it means someone else’s maximum bid was higher than yours - You will have to go higher)  Hint: A secret many use is to wait until the last minute and bid if the price is right.  You may catch someone “sleeping” and be able to outbid them moments before the auction closes.  Note:  You can also just watch an item for a while and wait until later to bid on it.

The “My eBay” menu at the top right of the screen will help you keep track of items you are watching, bidding on, communication with sellers, and more.

COMPLETING A PURCHASE
1. After you win you will be notified so you can authorize payment for the item.  Click the button to pay.  eBay will take you through the payment process.  (If you use PayPal, a screen for them will open asking you for confirmation)
2. After the seller receives your payment (which is usually fast unless you use a check)  they will ship your item within the time they specified under shipping time.
3. It is important as a member of the eBay community to give feedback to the seller about how the transaction went.  You can find the feedback page under “My eBay”.  (Most of the time I wait to leave feedback until after I receive the item and I’m happy with it.)

Note: If there is a problem speak directly with the seller.  Most sellers want to resolve problems quickly and will do what they can to fix the situation.  If you can’t get a satisfactory resolution you can get eBay’s help using the Dispute Console in the “My eBay” area.

This guide is available on my site in pdf form so you may download and print it to help you as you start out with eBay.  Other guides and helpful info are available at ebayuniversity.com
